It is natural to ask what the difference between SEO and SEM is, then. SEO focuses solely on traffic and ranking in organic search results, while SEM is an umbrella term that covers both organic and paid search results.
It is thus a collective term for both SEO and PPC (Pay-Per-Click).
With SEO, that is search engine optimisation, changes and optimisations are carried out on a website. The aim of SEO is to create organic traffic as opposed to paid ads. The purpose is to make it easier for search engines to understand the website so that they can present it in the search results.
There are countless factors that have an impact on SEO, and some of them are: H1, H2 and H3 headings, content quality, keywords, keyword density and link building.
If you have ambitions to reach the top of the organic search results, there is therefore plenty to get to grips with. Before you begin the writing work itself, it is a good idea to carry out keyword research.
In relation to SEM, PPC is paid ads, which you see at the top of your search results on, for example, Google. For paid ads, the Google Ads tool is often used.
With this advertising platform, you have the opportunity to create ads targeted at potential customers who search a specific keyword, have a specific search behaviour or are part of a specific segment.
PPC stands for Pay Per Click, and you therefore pay an amount every single time someone clicks on your ad. The advantage of this model is that you only pay when someone clicks through to your ad.
Clicks are a big step in the right direction. However, if you want to get value for money, it's important to have a user-friendly website with good content. Otherwise, visitors will simply leave the site again, and then you haven't gotten much for your advertising money.
